Ubud Monkey Forest, Seminyak, Kuta

May 25th, 2009

Back to Ubud, today is guy's day out,
Efvi went shopping, that leaves Andi, Janne and me heading out to visit our ancestor.

"Sacred Monkey Forest Santuary"
~nature reserve and temple complex~

Facts of Ubud Monkey Forest:

There are four groups of monkeys each occupying different territories in the park.
It contains the Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal temple as well as a "Holy Spring" bathing temple.
Also contains at least 115 different species of trees.

MOnkeys are very mischievous.
Read carefully the do's and don't before putting yourself into unnecessary danger.
Remove any spectacles or sunglasses u have because the monkeys love those souvenirs only 2nd to food.

It reads, do not touch, tease, grab or attempt to feed monkeys from hand
lest they can react in unpredictable manner.
They may go berserk and assume hair and clothes pulling frenzy.

Into the forest we go.
In case any of the monkeys try to be funny with us,
we are well-equipped to kipnap and suck their brains out alive.

Nice forest with no signs of any monkeys, the young ones probably went to school.
The old ones went line dancing.

Then we found 2 wise monkeys discussing some universe philosophy.

"Which country will be the most powerful?"

"The 1 which can recycle, restore and regenerate its limited natural resources
when everything else is depleting."

":_l ..Boring..how about this 1. Who's the sexiest women on earth, Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie?"

"Angelina Jolie, cos she's more likely to adopt me, wah haha.."

This monkey crept Andi from behind and started plucking for body lice, not that Andi had any..hehe.
Since his friends and family started using Head and Shoulders, food supply has been scarce.

This forlorn monkey got thrown out from his clan for getting involved in some forbidden love.

We then wandered upon the monkey forest temple:
"Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal"
The temple gates has carvings of monkeys, inside is a place to worship the Monkey God.

1 of the chamber..it has explicit detailed carvings from top to bottom.

These inhabitants of the monkey sanctuary are the real temple guardians.

Challenging the Alpha Male for a Rumble in the Jungle.
The epic duel between master and student.

Andi and Janne reminiscing the warmth of their mums' bossom after discovering this statue of fertility.

Sitting between 2 obese statues in front of a temple gate.

A fish pond with water fountain flowing out from elephant statue,
another example of Bali's richness in arts and sculpturing.

A bridge built by the mountain wall above a stream.

New cast members of LOST.
This is 1 of my fav Bali pics.:-)
Andi really has got what it takes to be on big screen.

Janne's primitive nature and instinct make him feel like home in monkey forest.

This monkey was engrossed thinking of the universe it didnt realise
its universe is about to prematuredly come to a gruesome end..

Sharing is caring. Our tribe of monkeys just won over a huge plunder from the other tribe.

Family that eats together stays together..
no matter the table manners.

Yam and raw potatoes doesnt make a happy meal for them.
However carrying bananas in the plain sight of hundreds of monkeys is likely gonna make them go amok (aggressive), esp. when they don't line up for food.

Yoga is a good way to improve gastric motility and digestion apart from the other
psychological and physical benefit, says this Yoga guru here.

These 2 wise monkeys we met earlier couldnt agree on something and are now settling their differences.

After picking Efvi from her shopping, we departed from Ubud to Seminyak.
Seminyak shares the same stretch of beach with Kuta and is situated north of it.
A quieter and more relaxed area compare to busy Kuta.

Tourist wanting to be away from the buzz of Kuta yet not too far from the happening town
can choose to stay here.

This long stretch of beach holds the beach front for a few hotels, restaurants, pubs and even malls.
There's a place for man-made bungee jumping if your up for it.

The sunset in Seminyak is nearly the same as in Kuta, only more romantic and peaceful
because less crowded.

Night, after 3 days of backpacking and budgetting we've decided to indulge and lay back a lil' bit
in an authentic Italian restaurant.

Then it was a night out at nearby Kuta.
Following Jln Raya Legian, we arrive at the monument of the Bali bombing victims.

In 12 october 2002, a favourite night spot in Kuta was hit by a terrorist bomb,
killing close to 200 tourist, many of them Australians.

Seeing the same street now buzzing with lights, loud musics and white tourists,
its hard to imagine this place was once blown into smithereens with blood and dead body parts lying around.

Gotta put up a solemn pose..

Just opposite the monument is a Billabong surf shop.
Ground floor sells clothing line while 1st floor has surf board and other surf stuffs.

Speaking of surfing, i'll be taking my 1st surf lesson tomorrow and its gonna be mind-blowing.
Its gonna be crazy, exciting, unbelievable and totally out of my world.
I'm gonna have to tame Bali's torrentous waves 2moro and i can only wonder how am i gonna do it.

Only 1 way to find out.

Tomorrow~~ "Thats what I came to Bali for".
